The society does not provide medical services of any kind, as its expertise lies in the areas of support, education, information and patient representation.
Kidney Society services are free for kidney failure families in Northland and Auckland, although membership is encouraged.
The Society works closely with the professionals providing medical care for people with kidney failure but is a strictly independent patient society providing support in the community.

Equipment for people on home dialysis available from the Kidney Society
For people dialysing at home, most equipment and all supplies are provided by their dialysis service. However, there are some "extras" that can make life with kidney failure just a lilttle easier. The Kidney Society can help with some of these extras. While they are not essential, many people find them helpful. If you choose to use our PD pouches, we suggest you purchase at least two. We can provide you with a WINZ quote, and sometimes we have second hand trolleys to give away. Contact us for information.
For people on Peritoneal Dialysis we assemble and sell, at cost,

Other Trolleys and Dripstands
People on overnight (automated) PD sometimes ask us about good quality trolleys to put their machines on, and about dripstands to hang their bags. We don't sell those ourselves, but suggest you have a look at the Framecraft website. They sell all sorts of medical trolleys. They suggest perhaps their dressing trolley (at around $700) or their tea wagon (around $388) might be what you are looking for. Of course you don't need to spend that much, look around on TradeMe (recently there was a perfectly good stainless steel trolley with a bid of just $30). You can also try second hand shops, and another good place to look is used office furniture shops such as Pink Panther in Manukau. Click on "mobiles" on their website. A used mobile unit with drawers, (lke the new ones shown on their website but cheaper), is an economical option.
Catheter Pouches
For people who prefer to tuck their PD catheter away in a fabric pouch rather than use tape to secure it to their skin, we sell adjustable pouches in four sizes (S, M, L, XL), at $15 each. Please contact us for further information so we can help you decide on the right size.
Payment options are the same as for trolleys (see above). Prepayment is required for pouches and all our equipment.
Second Hand Recliner Chairs
a special Kidney Society service for people on Home Haemodialysis
Home haemodialysis can be done in the tiniest of spaces!
Home haemodialysis can be done perfectly well in bed in the bedroom, but for people who prefer dialysing in a recliner chair, the Kidney Society can help with second hand recliners.
For people who find it difficult to get hold of a used chair themselves, in second hand shops, or on TradeMe for instance, the Kidney Socieyt keeps a small stock of used recliner chairs for sale, in three price groups. All the chairs are in good working "recliner" order at the time of sale.
The cheaper chairs are likely to have more wear and tear than the more expensive ones, but, being second hand, even the $100 chairs won't be perfect.
